Background and context
Orkla Finland Ltd’s Vaajakoski factory produces candy and chocolate products and is described as the second biggest confectionery producer in Finland. In early 2022, the factory decided to invest in a new wraparound case packing machine. The project was delivered in collaboration with Kafeko Nordic. Kafeko helps customers in the Nordic and Baltic countries find solutions that match their product requirements.
Customer challenge
The project scope included:
- Five different case formats
- Several different candy bag sizes
- Products: liquorice candies packed in pillow bags and stand-up pouches (Doypacks)
- Maximum required infeed speed: 150 bags per minute
Solution
In collaboration with Kafeko, Orkla selected the Syntegon Elematic 3001 WA – a compact wraparound case packer. The decision was influenced by:
- Wide range of case sizes
- Easy access
- Fast, repeatable format changeover
- Robustness
Despite the challenging global logistics situation at the time, Syntegon’s factory in Remshalden (outside Stuttgart) completed the shipment, and commissioning took place in November 2022.
Results & outcomes
After two months of production, the customer representatives – including Technical Manager Arto Liimatainen and Project Manager Jari Leinonen – reported being very satisfied with the new case packer.
